Light Rock Show

Pioneering light artist Anthony McCall's You and I, Horizontal consists of a beam of light shining through a small, dark room, casting geometric arcs and lines that slowly animate on the back wall. Thanks to vapor from a theatrical haze machine, the sides of the beam swirl with a shifting cloudiness. From a distance, it's neat to look at. But once you figure out it's OK to step into his creation, cutting through the planes and immersing yourself in the transforming lightscapes, it's "game over." This is not like watching Tron, it's like being Tron, to use a poor example that doesn't nearly do his spectacular art justice. Tonight at "College Night," McCall gives an artist's talk and then supplies the visuals for a performance by local prog-rock band Crime in Choir.
